Øyeblikk eg gjerne skulle ha opplevd

Bobby "Blue" Bland
The best was yet to come: at one point in the show, Bobby stopped and announced, "We have a young gentleman in the audience, a very great performer, and I know hes already done his show this evening, but I was wondering if hed like to come up here and do a number with me". What the....? "Ladies and gentlemen, Id like you to give a warm Austin welcome to Mister, uh, Izzy Bob!" Up pops Iggy (Pop). "You know St. James Infirmary, right?" Bland asked, and Iggy nodded. The band went into the song, and as my jaws gaped open, Iggy did a credible job of trading lines with the blues great. Id inched forward and was standing against a pillar, and at the songs end, Iggy jumped off the stage and ran up the aisle to where I was standing. "Howd you liked that?" he asked with a grin. It was amazing, I said. "Hah! Just watch. Ten years and Im gonna be in Vegas, baby! And" - and here he jabbed my chest with his finger in each word - "Im gonna be great!" Then he ran back to his companions.

Ed Ward fra Chronicle (Austin) mimrer om den gangen Bobby Bland og Iggy Pop delte scene hos Antones, Austin 1976. Henta fra boka Soul of the man, Bobby "Blue" Bland  av Charles Farley.

Dessverre finnes det ingen foto eller opptak fra denne kvelden. Men her har du iallefall studio versjonen av St. James Infirmary. Sangen inneholder min favoritt trombonesolo.
